clearly somewhat the worse for drink vauban jumped on top of the hearse and shouted, "home!" it is said that many of the mourners, including the priest who was to conduct the funeral, could not contain their laughter.

to be the worse for drink / liquor 直 译 是 「 因 酒 精 而 变 差 了 」 ， 是 「 喝 醉 了 」 的 迂 回 曲 折 说 法 。 例 如 ： i suspect he was then the worse for liquor, and did not know what he was doing （ 我 猜 他 当 时 喝 醉 了 ， 不 知 道 自 己 在 做 什 么 ） 。
contain 除 了 解 作 「 包 含 」 ， 还 可 指 「 抑 制 」 ， 例 如 ： he tried to contain his anger （ 他 努 力 抑 制 胸 中 怒 火 ） 。
