【解说】杰克逊是南军名将。一八六一年布尔溪畔一战，北军大举进攻，他沉应战，所部有如铜墙石壁，终于以少胜多，赢得「石壁」的外号。留 意 refrain from shooting at him 和 shoot the brave officers 二 语 。 shoot at 是 「 向 … … 射 击 」 ， 但 不 一 定 射 中 ； shoot 则 是 「 射 伤 」 或 「 射 杀 」 ， 例 如 ： （ 1 ） he shot me in the arm （ 他 开 枪 射 中 我 的 手 臂 ） 。 （ 2 ） he shot at me, but missed （ 他 向 我 开 枪 ， 但 没 有 射 中 ） 。 把 「 瞄 开 枪 」 这 意 思 引 伸 ， 「 努 力 达 到 某 目 标 」 也 叫 做 shoot at ， 例 如 ： the union leaders shot at a 5% pay rise （ 工 会 领 袖 力 争 加 薪 百 分 之 五 ） 。
take to task 是 成 语 ， 意 思 是 「 责 备 」 ， 例 如 ： the child was taken to task for his bad manners （ 那 孩 子 没 有 礼 貌 ， 受 到 责 备 ） 。
