at the battle, frederick attempted to rally his terrified tr oops."rogues," he cried,"would you live for ever?" apparently his cavalry, racing past him in full retreat, wished to try.
普鲁士腓特烈大帝在一七五六年到一七六三年的七年战争之中，和英国连手，终于打败了奥地利、法兰西、俄罗斯、瑞典等国的联盟。不过，一七五七年科林一役，他却遭重挫，奥地利冯．道恩伯爵引兵四万四千，打败了他率领的三万二千普鲁士军。普军有一万四千人伤亡，奥军伤亡则有九千人。
战役中，腓特烈力图振起惊慌失措的将士，高喊：「浑蛋，你们以为可以永远不死吗？」全面溃逃的普鲁士骑兵在他身旁匆匆跑过，显然都想试试可不可以。
【附注】 rogues, would you live for ever?这句话已成为名言，常用来激励将士。英式英语 for ever和 forever不同： for ever指「永远」， forever则指「经常」，例如：（ 1） i'll love you for ever（我会永远爱你）。（ 2） she is forever complaining（她老是在抱怨）。美式英语则一律作 forever。
