逃 亡 的 故 事
two scottish soldiers taken prisoner when france fell to the germans in 1940 escaped, and made their way towards the spanish border. they were about to row across a river when two german soldiers stopped them. they thought their number was up, but stalled in broken french and finally found that the germans only wanted to cross too.
“ so we paddled them across, ” said the two scots later, “ and charged them five francs each. ”
一九 四 ○ 年 ， 法 国 落 入 德 军 手 上 ， 有 两 名 苏 格 兰 士 兵 被 俘 ， 其 后 逃 脱 ， 奔 向 西 班 牙 ，来 到 一 条 河 边 ， 正 准 备 划 船 过 去 ， 却 被 两 名 德 国 士 兵 叫 住 ， 以 为 大 限 难 逃 ， 但 还 是用 结 结 巴 巴 的 法 语 拖 延 时 间 ， 最 后 发 觉 那 两 名 士 兵 也 是 要 渡 河 而 已 。

事 后 ， 那 两 名 苏 格 兰 人 说 ： 「 我 们 把 两 个 士 兵 划 过 河 ， 还 收 他 们 每 人 五 法 郎 摆 渡 费 。 」
【 解 说 】 one's number is up 是 成 语 ， 直 译 是 「 某 人 的 号 码 已 到 」 。 军 队 和很 多 其 他 团 体 的 成 员 ， 每 人 都 有 一 个 号 码 。 号 码 被 当 众 叫 出 ， 往 往 是 因 为 违 规 等 惹上 麻 烦 。 所 以 这 成 语 是 指 某 人 厄 运 难 逃 或 天 年 已 尽 ， 例 如 ： （ 1 ） from the doctor's serious expression, he realised that his number was up （ 他 见 医生 一 脸 凝 重 神 情 ， 知 道 大 限 难 逃 了 ） 。 （ 2 ） his number was up when he invested all his money in the property market just before it crashed （他 把 钱 都 投 入 即 将 崩 溃 的 房 地 产 市 场 ， 注 定 一 败 涂 地 ） 。
