the great indian war leader, tecumseh, had been a thorn in the side of the americans for a generation. after the battle of the thames in 1813, at which tecumseh was killed, vengeful frontiersmen skinned his body. they soon found a use for the skin, and "tecumseh razor strops" became extremely fashionable for a while.

a thorn in the side 是 成 语 。 thorn 即 「 刺 」 ， side 即 「 」 。 这 「 中 刺 」 也 作 a thorn in the flesh （ 肉 中 刺 ） ， 比 喻 不 断 使 人 烦 恼 的 人 、 物 ， 例如 ： for many years, his nagging wife proved to be a thorn in his side （多 年 来 ， 他 妻 子 不 断 唠 唠 叨 叨 ， 令 他 烦 厌 不 已 ） 。
